Only WIKA offers a NSF International certified pressure gauge to meet the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Although stainless steel was an option, it is expensive, so WIKA engineers crafted a gauge with wetted parts made from lead-free brass that is ideal for potable water applications.

US Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)

The US Safe Drinking Water Act was passed by Congress back in 1974 “to protect public health by regulating the nation’s public drinking water supply.”  The landmark law has been amended several times since then to include additional protections for the nation’s water supply. Of note, a 2011 amendment to the SDWA that came into force as of January of this year requires that all fittings used for drinking water applications have wetted parts with a weighted average lead content of no more than 0.25%.

NSF Approved

NSF International is an independent, accredited organization that helps set public health standards and certifications that help protect food, water, consumer products, and the environment. NSF certifies products and organizations in almost all industries and sectors. NSF provides a comprehensive set of standards for the water industry and suppliers to help ensure the quality and safety of commercial products. All of the gauges in WIKA’s Drinking Water Series are NSF 61-G approved gauges with lead-free brass wetted parts. These gauges are typically found in institutional water filtering and pumping systems, as well as in commercial dishwashers. NSF audits WIKA’s Lawrenceville, GA manufacturing facility on an annual basis as a routine part of its product certification procedures.
