October 2019 Core Values

Each month, WIKA USA recognizes employees who exemplify one of the company’s seven core values. The peer-nominated award is presented to employees who go above and beyond in their roles, all while upholding WIKA’s commitment to integrity, customer satisfaction, partnership, safety, continuous improvement, social responsibility, and excellence.

Established when WIKA was founded in 1946, core values are the standards by which WIKA measures itself and its employees. Thanks to employees’ commitment to these corporate values, WIKA has become a worldwide leader in industrial measurement technology. The company would not be where it is today without this dedication from within.

Employees who do more than expected are vital to WIKA’s overall mission of helping customers succeed through superior instrumentation solutions. This is why WIKA USA began the monthly Core Value Award program two decades ago – to acknowledge employees for their hard work and dedication.

Corporate Core Values are Keys to Company Success

A peer-nominated program, Core Value Awards give employees a special way to thank their colleagues for doing extraordinary work. Recipients are recognized for making a positive impact on WIKA’s continued success. Each nominee is chosen for exemplifying one of seven core values:

  • Integrity: Promoting ethical business practices
  • Customer Satisfaction: Creating positive customer experiences
  • Partnership: Encouraging collaboration in the workplace
  • Safety: Maintaining a safe work environment
  • Continuous Improvement: Improving WIKA policies and processes
  • Social Responsibility: Improving the community and the world at large
  • Excellence: Exceeding expectations in work that directly impacts company success

Each month a committee composed of senior managers chooses the winners, who receive a plaque, monetary award, and a designated parking spot at the main WIKA USA campus in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

George Gugich, winner, and Jon Clifford, Sr. Director of PI Sales

George Gugich, Customer Care, ETL Division | Recognized for Customer Satisfaction

In recent weeks, Josh Pugh noticed that George has been assisting in many ETM (electronic temperature measurement) quotes, but one instance stood out in particular. “We had a customer who had a rush quote – needed in a day – and it was looking like we had no one available to get the quote done. This was a new opportunity to win business away from a competitor,” Josh wrote. “Even with missing specs, George was able to work up a quote and even speak with the end user about some of the discrepancies. I am not sure if we’ll get the business, but taking the initiative like George did goes a long way in gaining new business and showing the customer that we want the business.” What a way to go the extra mile!

What did the customer want? “He called simply to report that Jim provided him with the most outstanding customer service he had ever experienced, when Jim helped him find a product solution for his application,” Hardy wrote. “The customer stated that it is very rare in this day and age to find someone so dedicated and pleasant to work with.” What a wonderful compliment, and what a satisfied customer!

Gladys Underwood, Purchasing, Pressure Gauge Division | Recognized for Partnership

Vannadeth Thilavong, who comes from the purchasing department at the WIKA subsidiary tecsis LP in Ohio, applauds Gladys’ collegiality and expertise. “Gladys was extremely helpful during my first trip to WIKA Atlanta, when I came to visit with the intention of learning the purchasing process. I had many question, but I didn’t have to ask a single one because Gladys was so informative. At the end of the day, I felt that I had more confidence in performing my duties at tecsis due to Gladys’ kindness and willingness to share her knowledge.” Gladys, thank you for your ability and readiness to train and mentor colleagues.
